I had them in some of my petunias last summer. Of course, last years petunia's are long gone. Well, I have Leaf Miners again. What do I need to do to get rid of them?
Leaf Miners
If you can find Avid, it will kill them. A systemic like imidicloprid, orthene or disyston will do the job too. The eggs are laid by a small fly and when they hatch, the worm like larva go into the leaf, between layers, so you need something that can penetrate the leaf to kill them.
Forgot to add, if you keep all leaves picked off and burned that have leaf miner trails, you will reduce the population of the adults. I used to get them on columbine and would just cut the whole plant back and burn the leaves.
