is it an annual or perrenial

How do you tell if a chrysanthemum is a perenial or annual or did I just winterize incorrectly.
I bought annuals last summer I thought were perenials cause they were blooming in the summer. I live in zone 6b but have no signs of growth on the plant. It's only been nice off and on for 2 weeks.

Some things take a while to come back... you could check the crowns to see if there are any signs of life.

I guess this is what I was trying to say. If you mean the crown being just below the point that the old growth was cut off,
I haven't seen any sign of new growth and that's why I wonder if there will be.

There are some types that are annual, like Marguerite Daisy, and some that are perennial, like Mums and Shastas. Do you know what kind it is?

I find it good not oto cut them back in fall. Let the old dead stalk stand all winter and cut them back in spring. I have better luck with them wintering over.A old Gent from the nursery told me a long time ago that that was my problem. I could never get them to winter over before.
