These old Iris are very hard to ID. Laurief has said that there are a lot that look alike. Maybe she'll drop by.

I saw one for sell on ebay that looks just like your photo.
It was listed as a Tall Bearded Iris - "Cardinal" from the 1920s

That one is beautiful but I dont think it is quiet like mine. Now, I did not ID this myself. Another gardener who is an iris collector helped me.

Charlotteda, thank you, thank you, thank you! This is the same iris currently blooming in my garden. I got them from my grandmother many years ago, but until now I've never known the name. William A. Setchell it is! Also thanks for the link to the historic iris photos. What a great site!
