Stewartia pseudocamellia - recommend or not?

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi everybody---

We are thinking of planting a 'stewartia pseudocamellia' after reading this write-up from the Ohio State Secrest Arboretum--

but, truly, it sounds too glowing to be true---so does anyone have any experience with the tree? Please let us know what you think.

Thank you. t

I have not grown it, but have been fascinated by it since I saw it in the Wayside Nursery catalog. I found the following link to a PDF by University of Florida.

If you have suitable conditions (decent soil, some protection from exposure, and that great Cincinnati climate!), go for it -- it's a beautiful, long-lasting tree.

Thankyou. I think we will go ahead and plant one. They seem like a very nice tree and will add some good autumn color to our yard... t.

My neighbor down the street has one and it is a spectacular, wonderful tree. Very upright. I was there two days ago and the leaves aren't out yet, but even the old dead seedpods are beautiful! This is a near perfect plant. Oh, and my neighbor who owns it loves it.
