25 blooms today!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 7b)

I am rather new to Vines, and my Clematis is only 3 years old. She seems very happy where she is!

Beautiful!! Isn't it just awesome when you find just the "right" spot for a plant?
Thanks for the lovely picture!

I agree with cj5404az, it sure is a beauty. Really like all those blooms at one time.

Center, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm planting one today...will it bloom this year? It's just a root ball. I have another one coming in a couple of weeks that is supposed to be a well established plant.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 7b)

This one has doubled the number of blooms every year!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Beautiful Clematis

Shalimar, FL(Zone 8a)

Love the color! Which one is it?

Leander, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh what a great photo. Love the color, TFS!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 7b)

Thank you. This is a new camera also, and I'm having fun experimenting! Such great, patient models!

I believe that the Clematis is a Ramona. Don't quote me, cause I buy what I love.... I am learning now that I must learn the names, and the botanicals too!

I do have a Jackmanii, but she does not perform as well... she is on the other side of this arbor.

Thanks for the input.

May I ask what camera you have?? DH and I will be shopping for a new one soon.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 7b)

It is a Nikon D70 Digital SLR. Found the best deal on E-bay. NEW.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

What a lovely Clematis! Beautiful blooms!!

brendabloomer: depending on the size of the rootball, you may get a few flowers the first year, the second year you'll have even more and by the third year, it will look like the one in this thread. Make sure to keep it moist and feed it monthly during the growing months.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Melanie, your Clematis is REALLY gorgeous.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Luv the color of your clematis, Melanie. What's the orangey/reddish/yellowish flowers that haven't opened up on the right top of the picture?
:) Donna

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 7b)

Thank you! Those are Tangerine Crossvine flowers. Actually, they have just finished blooming! They put on quite a show of their own just before the clematis. They look like an orange blanket laying over the top of our cedar arbor.

There is a picture from last year on my journal photos. I will have to load that from another computer later!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Oooh, Crossvine!!!! I got a piece from DonnaB when I was at the Florala Swap. I think it's going to be okay...I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Do you get babies from yours or take cuttings?
:) Donna

Sunnyvale, CA(Zone 9b)

Your climatis looks AWSOME.
Can you tell me where you have your Ramano in your garden?

I picked up Ramano today since it said "partial shade to full shade" but I am not sure where to put it in my backyard. (I am in Zone 9 - Sunset 14/15).

I have an area with no direct sun at all, some sun (2 hours or so) up to 6 hours direct sun.

It would be great if it can take full shade, but I just wanted to see where you have yours at. Also how long have you had it before it started blooming?

Just beautiful.... I love them....

You'll love this.... I is on the East side of our arbor gate. It gets sun (roots) all morning until 1pm or so, then the tops are still in the sun.

I was told that they like their feet cool and their heads hot.

The Jackmanii on the other side of same arbor has not done nearly as well... not good, actually... so I would say that shading their roots is a big deal!

She has bloomed every year since planting! I just planted 3 more red clematis yesterday, so we will see what conditions they like!

Sunnyvale, CA(Zone 9b)

Wow, that is great. Thank you for the information.
I have an area against the fense that the root won't get much a couple of hours of direct sun. The fence gets about 4 hours. I think I will plant it there.

How many blooms did you get the 1st year?

tmm99

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 7b)

.... maybe 6 or 8... but the second year doubled, and has doubled every year since! Today, I bet there are near 35-40! I had to stop counting....

OH! And here is that crossvine from another angle, in all it's glory! She bloomed for about 2 weeks, but will bloom again later in the summer too!

Mel ...Thanks for the pic! It is breath taking. I want one!!! If it comes up missing...It wasn't me. lol

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Love the color of your clematis against the gray fence! And wow, that crossvine is unbelievable!!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Oh man, oh man...I luv that crossvine. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed about the piece I got from the Florala swap.
:) Donna

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 7b)

Thanks! I did cut several long shoots off just yesterday, as they blocked the view of the clematis from my bathroom window! I just can't get enough of them either!

I hope you're rooting them, Melanie??

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Wow, that crossvine is AMAZING! Absolutely gorgeous!

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

There are no words to describe that crossvine. When it goes missing it was brendabloomer Teheee!

Dallas, TX

Gee Txmel ... you really do us Texans proud with that Crossvine! I have never seen so many blooms on one vine, what are you feeding it? LOL My clematis does well too and would do better if it didnt encounter so many accidents from the yard people and the tearing down of the fence! Now that the Honeysuckle is gone, I dont know how I am going to get it to go up the fence. sob...

I didn't do it. lol However I surrrrre do like it.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 7b)

You will just laugh.... we don't do anything special. #1 We are organic. #2 We do not overwater. .#3 We throw out some organic (dry) fertilizer once, sometimes twice a year. therefore...#4 In our half-acre garden... it has to be tough to survive. We don't have time to baby things, so they must perform or .....

I am so thrilled with the clematis blooms. i DO touch, smell and "talk" to them almost daily as I admire them... maybe that is it!

I have been considering "vacuuming" the old crossvine buds off, cause they are quite ugly now, and the clematis is trying to bloom on top of the blanket of brown crossvine flowers! That is the only downside....

This time next year, I hope to have some red clematis next to these purple ones!

Dallas, TX

Brenda .... this pic is the result of new fence being built. Lord know I did everything to save this vine...and it did survive... but the Honeysuckle is is gone and it has nothing to climb on except the pitiful little trellis I nailed to the fence.

Txmel I am waiting for my Red one also. I found that red Niarobe I had been looking for, its running like crazy but I dont think its old enough to bloom this year. I hate waiting to see if the place where you ordered the plant from has sent you the right thing. I am going to SEE RED if its not that Niarobe! What is the name of your red Clematis?
Sylvia

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 7b)

MME (?madame) Julia. I am still waiting! I put them in the ground last weekend, so I hope to see tendrils running soon!

mel

Kernersville, NC(Zone 7a)

wow, I want to plant some of these now, and that crossvine is simply stunning!

Olathe, KS(Zone 6a)

Man I sure miss living in the South. Here in Kansas, I have buds on some of my clematis but we had a hard freeze over the weekend. We must have broken out atleast 2 dozen blankets to cover everything up and I can't believe we pulled it off only loosing 1 puny annual. I have over 100 plants in my bedroom as we speek waiting for it to warm up again!LOL

GOOD JOB JLD!

Well, let me wipe the slobber from my keyboard. Vaccum those dead flowers off. I am very impressed with all your vines.
Mother said about all vines;
First year they sleep,
second year they creep,
third year they leap!

I am so excited. This week I found a Ramona Clematis and brought her home. I hope I get beautiful flowers like yours.
