I want to post 'Iris Cycloglossa'

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

They are almost in bloom and aren't in the plantfiles. But where do I put the 'Cycloglossa'.? It's not a cultivar. So where?

Like this one? Oh my that's pretty and I don't even grow Iris!

You'd best wait for an expert or PlantFile editor to come along, but it appears to be a Species:

Happenstance is right - it's a species, so the entry would be as follows:

Family: Iridaceae
Genus: Iris
Species: cycloglossa
Cultivar: [empty]

Thanks everyone. Yes, it's very pretty and a prolific bloomer. I have heard that it's hard to take hold but I haven't had a problem. They do need to be staked though - the flowers are small but there are a lot of them and they last a long time. The foliage is very floppy which some people might see as a down side.

And Happenstance, I've never found quite such a good photo of them. And I've looked. Thanks

Can't wait to post them. :-)

There are some truly amazing photos on the CalPhotos site. Here's the page on which I found your Iris:

What a great resource. Thanks. Now if I could just get my Cycloglossa at 12" like they are supposed to be rather than 24", I might not have to stake them. I loved the carefully curled foliage in the photo. Now I know what to do with it! Who knows, maybe I won't have to stake this year. They've already got their stakes ready. I need to go tie them up tomorrow.

It looks like I wasn't shipped Cycloglossa Iris. I just rechecked and this is what I took in the garden today. Well, I can't post a photo here. Maybe I'll go over to the plant ID forum.

doss, your threads are addicting and keeping me from getting anything done....thank you!
That Cycloglossa that happenstance posted is gorgeous. There are so many beautiful irises. Everytime I open a picture I swear I have to have it.

Thanks, Chad.

It's only fun if you can play with others.

Hurray! I did get at least two blooming this year so far. So I have an image. The cycloglossa is a Juno iris. Anybody know where to put that in the family tree?
