quack grass

Coeur D Alene, ID(Zone 5a)

how do I get rid of it? We're putting in a new fence in the backyard, where there's about a 5 foot thick row of quackgrass across the yard. I rototilled (so now I'll have that many more quack grass plants growing!), and Im wondering if there are any other things I can do other than mulch and use round-up. ...
Thanks,

Hello mosc0022,

Since quackgrass proliferates by underground rhizomes, it's almost impossible to get rid of it by rototilling or digging. The only product that others have told me works, is "Roundup".
Here are some web sites that may be helpful:

Good Luck

Thanks! Round up it is... and then a lot of mulching, I guess. One of those sites said (in bold): Never use a rototiller where quackgrass is growing.... oops. Already made that mistake. Oh well, I don't think it could really gewt any worse than it is already, and tilling at least lossened up the ground so I can eventually plant other stuff there.
Cross your fingers!
Mara
