I have a watermelon habit. Our last frost date is April 15, though April 21 or so is more sure. I think melon roots dont like being disturbed but how far in advance could I start a seedling or two or melons?
watermelons
They will actually do fine if you plant them in the ground about April 15. You could start them indoors anytime between now and April 1. From experience tho you won't get ripe melons any sooner. The plants are going to wait until soil conditions are right to set melons. Watermelons have a long taproot so they need to be transplanted soon after they germinate.
Whoops , my mellons gemenated 8 days early and the ground here is still frozen
and there about 8 inches tall now, I got 12 seedlings. LOL ... there going to take over
the house if spring dont get here soon.. LOL
Thank you Farmerdill. I'll wait a week or two before starting them indoors.
