Searching for a special clematis

Bellmore, NY(Zone 7b)

Hello all! I am searching for a particular clematis: clematis viticella 'Mary Rose". It's also called 'Flore Pleno' I believe. It's an old cultivar, and as far as I can tell, it's only available in the U.K.. does anyone out there know how I might find one??

Thanks!

You might look on e-bay, there is a seller, Sandylp who has a lot of Clematis, some that I had never seen before...

I wish I had some info for you but I don't. If you find a source, please let me know. That was my hubby's grandma's name. :) Our sixth daughter shares her middle name.

I just ran a search on this Clematis and found that C. "Mary Rose" is acutally named C. viticella 'Flore Pleno' ('Mary Rose' becomes a synonym). http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=576

Deep greyish-purple double flowers in profusion. This cultivar is believed to very old, known as C. peregrina purpurea flore pleno in 1623 and the 'double purple virgin's bower' when descrlbed in 1629. Reintroduced and renamed in 1981 by Barry Fretwell.

Fragrant: No
Approximate height: 2.5 - 3.0 metres
Flowering period(s): Jul Aug Sep
Aspect: Any aspect
Pruning: Hard prune (Group 3)
Country of origin: United Kingdom
Other name(s): viticella 'Flore Pleno'; viticella flore pleno; viticella 'Pulchella'? (see Magnus Johnson's Slaktet Klematis)

Try searching under Clematis "Flore Pleno" and hope you have better luck!

If I were looking for this clematis, I might try contacting the owner of "completely clematis" in Ipswich, Mass- she seems to have a particular love of unusual clematis, and always includes snippets about history and origins...she might have this plant, or know about how to obtain it...

Here is a link to read more about C. Florida Sieboldii. http://www.pikebaylodge.com/clematis.htm

sjms - Your growing zone is not warm enough for C. Florida Sieboldii, unless you have a greenhouse to grow it in. It requires zone 7a and warmer to grow outdoors.
