What is this guy?
CLOSED: Star eye
It is a lacewing from the Insect order Neuroptera. Possibly from the Green Lacewing family Chrysopidae. Some lacewing nymphs are known as antlions and are fierce predators, building conical holes in sand as traps for their prey.
this one, looks very interesting . I will have to save, to buy a camera ,that can take those close pics
Saw a lot of the second one or something similar when I was clearing and tilling under the winter cover crop in my community garden plot. It's a beetle, and I'd be interested in knowing if it was a pest or not. Mine, at least, are very quick to fly when disturbed. Similar to monterey's, red head, legs, and body with black elytra (The hard front wings characteristic of beetles. Had to look that one up.) About an inch long, I think.

I think it might be a Soldier Beetle! If so, it's a good guy.
