Still having problems with ZA and/or Avast

I dowloaded ZA and Avast a few days ago. If I turn off my cable modem connection for the night or do not connect to the web for a few hours, I am unable to connect and get 'timed out' error messages. If I restart my computer, I am able to connect to the web right away. ??? I also have an external firewall and I am wondering if that is part of the problem? I did not disconnect it when I installed ZA and Avast. I am using Firefox as my primary browser and have IE available. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
