warning-even wet wood will burn

Dayton, TX(Zone 9a)

We almost lost our greenhouse today. Had a heat lamp under the seed table for a little extra warmth. Luckily it only burnt the table ( well, all of the young seedlings) and the floor. We were very lucky. My husband drove up to billowing smoke from the door.

You were extraordinarilly fortunate. I have been amazed at how many ways to start a fire by accident there are when you just didn't think about it long enough. My DH almost set the house afire when he set a folded newspaper on top of a lamp and didn't turn the lamp off. I never did figure out why he set the paper there when it could have gone anywhere else. It doesn't even need to be a heat lamp to put out enough heat to start a fire. Even a low wattage bulb can be a hazzard if the heat can't escape fast enough. Of course I'm not blameless either. I managed to start a fire in a microwave oven. I'm really glad the damage was so small in your greenhouse. Jessamine
