What is wrong with this Phal?

Louisville, KY(Zone 6a)

I got a friend of mine into this orchid thing. He called and wanted me to take a look at this plant. It looks like some kind of virus, however, I can't say for sure. Take a look and let me know your opinion. Thanks for your help!

rockdrky,
I've been growing phals now for a little over a year and have only lost one of my beginners.A great site is "orchidlady.com". I'm not sure about your friends phal but it could be a fungus. Try orchidlady my best advice, sorry.

What do the other leaves look like, or the whole plant?

It does look suspiciously like the dreaded virus, but i agree that a fungal problem is not our of the question.

It only seems to be on this one leaf at the time. It looks almost three dimensional when you look at it. I told him to isolate the plant until we could some to some sort of conclusion.

I'd be tempted to cut off the affected portion in case it is fungal...it may spread to the rest of the plant otherwise. If you do, sterilize the knife after you use it to prevent spreading the fungus (or virus) to other orchids.
