evergreen cones

Richfield Springs, NY(Zone 4a)

Why do some trees produce cones, while others, of the same species do not? For example; I have a norway spruce that is very, very prolific, while another, which is twenty feet away produces almost nothing, if any at all. Both trees are very healthy and have equal shade, sun, water, etc... Year after year, the same thing happens. Any ideas? Maybe the one need viagra?!!

Many species have male (non seed bearing) And female (seed bearing). I do not know if this is true with the Norway Spruce or not but it certainly sounds like that may be the case.

That was my thought too. But, I asked people, including a logger(who I assumed should know trees), and they all told me that there were no male/female trees. Somebody's fibbing to me!LOL!

A logger knows wood, but not necessarily trees!

Cedar (who comes from a long line of loggers and foresters)

Your right, but you think he would look up once in a while.LOL! A podiatrist knows feet, but I think most know there are female feet and then there are male feet. At least I hope so! BTW, is that the answer to my original question....males and females?
