How much do I prune back my vine? When do I do it?

Goldflame Honeysuckle
I live in zone 5a,so I prune my goldflame back just as the first new growth appears, normally in late april or early may. I recommend that you cut the dead canes and any overlapping canes only , but if you want to contain its size, just prune to the shape you want, but don't cut more than a quarter of the total of the vine as it may stress the plant. LOL.
