Weeping Cherry leafless limbs

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Hi all! Got a weeping cherry (a dwarf/staked to about 4')last year - all's well except out of the (guessing) 10-12 total branches, the top 4 have no leaves, whatsoever? Any ideas on why, and is it possible that they'll leaf next spring? Thanks in advance!

Nan, try bending one of the leafless branches between your fingers - if it's supple and doesn't break easily, it's probably still living and may send out branches yet.

If it's brittle and breaks off easily, you'll know to prune them out :(

Thanks much for your reply. I did try bending those leafless branches, and they don't 'snap' right off, so I'm assuming they're still alive....but no leaves, and the bottom limbs are covered with lots of nice leaves!! If I were to prune these topmost branches.....would branches grow back? I don't have alot of 'tree knowhow'...if you know what I mean!!
