How do orchids get started? Seed?

I am very curious how one propogates orchids, if specifics are needed, how about a phal?

Better lab techniques for seeds and meristem culture are the two breakthroughs that have brought down the price of orchids. Meristem prop. doesn't work for all genera, though.
