highly fragrant vines

Tucson, AZ

Would like to plant some highly fragrant vines, esp that you can smell from a distance. I live in Tucson AZ in zone 9b that could be planted in the ground and not in shade. Also would like to know what varieties of jasmine could grow not on a protected patio but out in the garden here.

Oh, I can think of a few right off the bat.
There is the Pink or Winter Jasmine, Jasminum polyanthum, that is highly fragrant and the buds are pink, but has a short bloom time from Feb to April. For me in zone 9 it is evergreen.

Then there is the Wisteria, and there are some varieties that are not your run of the mill. I know there is a pink, but my favorite is Millettia reticulata:

My all time favorite for fragrance & long bloom time is Vigna Caracalla or Corkscrew Vine, but it dies down in the winter & comes back in the Spring.

Oh, and passiflora is another good climber & bloomer.
Hope this gives you some ideas.

edited to say,
there are also fragrant clematis, but I do not have any so I cannot attest to how fragrant they are. Also I have been told that kiwi blooms are fragrant.
Sweet peas and moonflowers are also fragrant but are annuals.

1. Ditto the moonflowers! (love having blooms at night!)

2.There are som climbing milkweeds that are supposed to have a nice fragrance, and attract and help butterflies.

3. Carolina Jessamine blooms late in the season, and is evergreen(and fragrant).

4. Honeysuckle, honeysuckle, honeysuckle! I don't know of a more fragrant vine than this one. It is also evergreen.

5. Climbing roses and clematis(classic combination, too).

6. Melettia reticulata(evergreen wisteria)-highly decorative, evergreen, and fragrant.
...(forgot to mention this one)

...plus, I'm sure I'll remember even more...lol

We have hall's honeysuckle here in the stores which is supposed to be fragrant but I can never really detect much fragrance to it. Are there some honeysuckles that are very fragrant??

Telosma cordata...Pakalana - delicious fragrance.

'Gold flame' is not only a very fragrant honeysuckle, but is a gorgeous deep pink and cantaloupe color, and is sterile(it won't produce berries, and reproduce from them)

There is another sterile honeysuckle very similar to Gold Flame called "Pink Lemonade" also highly fragrant. It has a light gardenia fragrance, more noticable in the evenings.
