Sphag covering on paph soil?

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

I bought two paphs and each have a layer of sphagh on top of the soil. Should I remove this when I repot after the plants are done with blooming?

There is nothing wrong with a layer on sphag on top of - or even in - the potting mix. Basically, you want to make sure that the bottom of the growths are in contact with medium so that any new roots do not abort (which they will do if they hit air). When you have new growths, you will often find you have to either pot deeper or mound some extra medium around the base. Either works. So if the sphag is there for this purpose, leave it there or replace it with more potting medium. If it looks totally decorative, you can either remove or leave it - it is probably providing a little extra humidity.

I think it's there for decorative purposes, I'll leave it. These guys need all the extra humidity they can get in my house.
