I have a nice little pond in my enormous garden, but it is totally covered by an arbor which has stuff (like wisteria) growing on it. It's also surrounded by several trees. Is there any way to have water lilies in a pond like that? Ones that will actually BLOOM? I know they need some sun, and my pond hardly gets any. I'd hate to take the arbor down though. I'll have to take a picture of it and post it. What I'm wondering is, do I have to have actual sun, or can I put a heater in the pond and make lilies bloom?

Lilies need at least 6 hours of sun a day. I don't think the heat would do it. Tough choice!! I'd put in another pond! Good excuse, I can always do with another pond.
The following lilies are faily shade tolerant but most
still require 3-4 hours of sun to bloom with any consistancy.
The exception is Chromatella which seems to prefer shade.
