DIY cornice board?

Have any free advice? I am now considering cornice boards for my window treatment in my living/dining area. I have 5 yards of fabric and 5 windows and nothing else will work and I have always liked cornice boards. I have 2" wood blinds on each window. Will not be able to make a real deep board, maybe 8-9 inches.
