Tiff extension

Last week I received an e-mail with some old 1950's pictures taken by a friend. He sent them and when I load them they just don't load. I have no problems with jpg or bmp, but these are tiff extension. My internet carrier is netzero. How can I copy these from my e-mail to my hard drive so I can use a program to check them out.
