The loofah vine that ate Mesa

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

This loofah vine is taking over our neighborhood, it seems to grow inches everyday. Can't wait to actually be able to use it.

Is that clambering around amongst your other plants? It looks like it is. I have some luffa seeds to start next year but I've gone so overboard with vines that my fence space is going to be limited - I want to grow EVERYTHING this spring :>) I'm wondering what will be OK left without support...

Natasha yes it's clambering among my wildflower bush. It has compeletly wrapped itself around that bush.

Thanks, Awanda. I'll try mine in the flower border too.

That is too cool!

The loofah that's pictured has been picked, peeled and is now drying. Since that picture was taken, I've counted at least 15 more loofah fruit growing. At this rate all of my neighbors will have loofah's.

So you are saying I should only plant one seed??? Unless I want to supply loofah's for the whole neighbourhood?

Natasha, I think I planted about 4 or 5 seeds; I will know better next time:-). Kareoke, I've counted about 15 seeds on one fruit.
