This is a codonopsis lanceolata that I grew from seed. Notice the glaucous(the white dusty film, like plums have...)interior.
These were sticky with nectar, but were not sucessfylly pollinated. They form a tuberous root, but seem to be a little fussy. They go dormant if over, or under watered, it gets too hot, and of course, when it gets cold. (fussy, fussy, fussy!)
This makes its rare bloom appearance really appreciated and celebrated! I only get to see these once, or twice a year.
The codonopsis clematidea is fussy like the lanceolata, but not quite as prominently colored. The codonopsis pilosula is a much easier codonopsis to grow, than either one, but mine has yet to bloom for me.
I have several other varieties, but so far, I like the color of this one, best.
