To be viable, do the seed pods of Vigna caracalla have to turn brown on the vine? I have several pods that are fat with seeds, but still very green in color and it is about time for a frost in my area. If one is imminent, should I try to cover the plant and pods, hoping for a little more ripening time, or can I snip the fat ones off and dry them in the house and maybe get 'good' seeds? Thanks!!

Need input on ripening seeds of corkscrew vine
I always leave them on the vine, and cover with a blanket until temperatures come back above freezing. In your area, that shouldn't be too long...maybe overnight, or a day, or two at a time at the most.
I do that with several of my choice vines that ripen late.
You could risk picking them too soon, otherwise. ...just my opinion.

Appreciate it, seedpicker-I will certainly do as you advise. This is my first corkscrew vine and I was not sure when the pods were considered 'ripe and pickable'.
I've seen pictures of and read threads about all your beautiful vines-I believe you are the Queen of Vines at DG-so you can bet I'll take your opinion to heart.
Thanks again!!
Mary
