Making your own drawer pulls

I'm shopping around for drawer and cabinet hardware and it's so pricey. I guess I knew it was, but when I tally up the number of them needed...Ouch. I saw this on Christopher Lowell's website: http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/christopherlowell/classics/drawerpulls/drawerpulls.html Has anyone tried this? What I wish even more was that I knew how and had the facilities to do metal work!
