Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

The lady at the nursery lost the tag for this and can't remember what it is...any ideas?

One of the stalks (?) has roots growing out the side of it. Can I split this piece off and plant it?

And what about this bulb that's also rooting off the side - can I divide it off without killing it? The whole thing is very root bound (I think!) - any tips would be very much appreicated!

Oops - forgot to attach the photo!

The plant seems to be some hybrid derived from Dendrobium phalaenopsis or at least a cane dendrobium. The plantlet is a keikei, a common form of reproduction for dendrobiums....usually associated with too much watering. You can certainly seperate it from the parent plant. Looks like repotting of the parent might be in order as well. Keep the plant in full sun as this type of dendrobium are sun-lovers. Your flowers will probably be pink or magenta in colour.

Here's a link to info on this type of dendrobium

Thank you much - I didn't want to risk killing the little fella, so I was holding off on repotting - DEFINITELY needs it!
