Crate Labels

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I love crate labels, once used on produce crates. They were common until the 50's, when pre-printed cardboard cartons changed the way produce was shipped. Mint labels are not uncommon since great stockpiles of these labels were done in advance, and then never used. As with any collectible, some are much more rare/desireable than others. I love them not as a commodity, but as artwork; the colors are so rich and vibrant, and the artwork is often beautiful.

For a great collection of these labels (usually at MUCH better prices than eBay), see http://paperstuff.com

We only have two labels right now, but want to get more. The ones we have are

Valley Apples: http://www.paperstuff.com/view_label.php?pid=2017
Up'N Atom Carrots: http://www.zazzle.com/products/product/product.asp?general_category_id=103920481943003047&caching=on&product_id=228527169294588571&index=2

We're painting our kitchen walls a deep red and in my mind's eye I can already see those labels framed and hanging in there. Anyone else collect these neat bits of ephemera?
