Who needs to ever go into the house with a garden that looks like yours? A hibachi in the corner for a kitchen and you are set. So beautiful Tomtom. The white lobelia ia very lovely. I have never seen one.

Tomtom, For years most of my cooking was done on my balcony on a hibachi. My favorite kitchen item is my 18 pound cast iron wok.

When I finish with the yard remodeling, one of the things I would like to have is a round hibachi in one area. I used to have a clay charcoal oven(I am blanking on the name) and loved it. I think a decorative hibachi would be fun. I do not like to have to go inside to cook. Needless to say, my family does not expect things like roast beef. lol. I have not found a good supplier of lotus root for tempura here like I had in San Francisco. :-( Most things are easy to find as there are many large Asian supermarkets here.

My blue "Tomtom garden" did very well in early spring here. Now that I know when the flowers do best in my weather, I will plan better for next year.

Wow,did you mostly cook on a hibachi,frogsrus!
These days you can hardly find a hibachi in urban Japan.
It's once again a suprise a hibachi is favorably used in the far-away US.
I 've used them as containers for waterplants.

So do I love lotus root tempuraed . When it is cooked al-dente,It's simply fantastic.
I'm looking forward to seeing your blue garden.
Don't forget ,frogsrus, to let me have a close look at it.

Hi,Sequee, the plant is Gomphrena. It's an annual easy to grow.
I'll send its seeds to you if you'd love them.

Thank you ,trunnels, for your comment.

When you cook the lotus root al dente do you stir fry or steam it? It would look so pretty with maybe some spinach and cranberries on the plate.

My Father (86) is on a diet that is very limited. I am always looking for new and interesting things for him.

OSAKA, Japan(Zone 9b)

frogsrus , when I tempura the lotus roots, I cut it into thin circular slices (about 5mm thick)
and deep-fry them. I often garnish them with tempuraed green cayennes and perilla leaves.
I sometimes stir-fry thin sliced lotus root (about 2~3mm thick)and season it with pepper and sugar.
I ' m feeling like writing for the cooking forum .LOL
Your dishes apprarently are good both to look at and eat.
Keep preparing wholesome meals for your father!

Tomtom, your flower combinations are beautiful. That is a neat looking container the white lobelia is in. What type of material is it?

OSAKA, Japan(Zone 9b)

plant_fiend,

Thanks a lot for your comment.
This color of the container might not be found so often.
It is made of china. I love it very much !

Wow, it looks like iron, maybe.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Wow, China...I also thought it looked like iron. Either way, it looks great. The plants really stand out with the coloring.

OSAKA, Japan(Zone 9b)

trunnel and plant-fiend,Thank You so much for your comments.
Yes,it sure looks like iron. Our traditional roof tiles("kawara")resemble this in color and texture.

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Very beautiful.
