Looking for seeds or cuttings of Aristolochia arborea

Spring Valley, CA(Zone 10a)

I'm posting this here because 99.9 percent of Aristolochias are vines. Most people don't even know that there are tree species too. I'm looking for this particular one because it is the most spectacular and can tolerate temperatures down to 32 F. A mature tree is multi-trunked and gets to about 18 feet. As you can see, the blooms are cauliflorous (they bloom from the trunk and branches).

Apparently the can also be propagated from cuttings. Here is an image I found on the Internet. I've got some other images of this remarkable plant if anyone wants to see them.

So exotic looking!!!!

San Francisco, CA(Zone 10a)

So the flowers kind of bunch up at the base of the trunk? Are they on small branches? Or do they sprout directly from the trunk?

Pretty darn cool!

Would love to see a picture of the whole tree.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

any one finds some please post a link. Thats is so cool!!!!!

Spring Valley, CA(Zone 10a)

Unfortunately I don't have images of the entire tree, but here are a few more...

I've been told that Butterfly World in Florida sometimes has rooted cuttings of this plant in their shop.

Unfortunately, I don't live in Florida. (or fortunately)

That sure is unsual. It looks like it would need a lot of moisture and humidity to grow like that.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I have been searching the Net and haven't found any, if anyone finds these for sale PLEASE email me.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I just got this email today after inquiring about this plant. It isn't sounding good for finding one.

Ms. Morr

I just received this plant last summer from a colleague. I have done some
searching and not come up with a source yet. If I come up with one I will
let you know.

I sent off an email to a university that raises them and many others asking for a source so keep fingers crossed.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

these are on Ebay, not exactly the same but close, and have very pretty leaves.
4327986662 just put this number in the search on ebay and it will come up.

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Wow...I did that search on ebay. Neat looking leaves!

I then plugged in the name of that one, and came up with a site that has LOADS of aristolochias! http://www.sunshine-seeds.de/aristolochiaceae/foto_aristolochia.htm

So much for ever being able to collect them all! lol...

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

seedpicker I went to that site but all I saw were the pictures, no place to buy the seeds

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Yeah...It's pretty much a big fat tease, isn't it??!! lol...

Here is their main page: http://www.sunshine-seeds.de/

I don't know if they mail to the US, or not. It is a German site...
They always have really rare, and really cool stuff! I just emailed them to ask if they'll mail to the US...

Well, I have one of those google toolbars. If you click the "I" button, it will translate for you. This way I can navigate in English, even though it is in German.
I also love the "highlighter" feature. It highlights(if you click it)the word, or words in your search box...neat.

I'll post here, if they can read English, and return my email(in English! lol...).

But to far away from me lol. Kareoke I was planning on biding on it and forgot :-( Sure hope she has another one. I believe she said she had picked up a couple

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

seedpicker, I visited the link you provided (sunshine-seeds) and they have a button 'für englishsprechende Kunden' (means 'for English speaking customers') that links you to paypal. Does this help?

Ursula

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Brugie me too, guess i will see if anyone answers in the Mail Forum. thanks

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Ursula!
I was using the google toolbar button that translates, but it doesn't always translate correctly.
