End of the season wisteria care

Mount Pleasant, MI(Zone 5b)

Hey guys, I put a 2 year old wisteria in the ground this May, and it has taken off great. It has already reache the top of the trellis and is geting ready to head out across the front of the porch. I have no idea which kind it is... but I am not sure what, if any preparations I should take for the coming fall and winter. Thanks for your help in advance.

Nick, after the leaves fall off, it is a good time to prune if it needs it. Here's a great link about pruning: http://www.plantamnesty.org/pruning_tips/pt_wisteria.htm

Thanks Clare! It seems that I should let mine be for the first season at least. I just wanted to be sure. I am pretty new to wisteria.

Yes, Nick, I agree that wisteria really doesn't need pruning in its first or its second season. It can take awhile to get started. I didn't start pruning until I could see vines climbing where I didn't want them to go. That article is good because it explains about leaving nodes for flowers when you prune since Chinese and Japanese wisteria blooms on old wood.
