Well, we chose our cabinets at Lowe's today. We're going with the stock cabinets in their Hudson line (clear-coat maple). We priced Formica's solid counters -- the 28sq' we'd need would be $1400! Sheesh, that's more than our cabinets. Granted, there's a special for a free sink when you purchase a counter, but we already have the new double stainless steel sink from last year and we like it. Looks like this is our final configuration below (cabinets are lighter than that color). We'll go with Lowe's stock laminate counters for now. We plan on painting the walls a soft sage green. Some of the existing trim is white already, so we might keep it that or go for a very light cream to compliment the cabinet color; the baseboards are a darker wood, and we'll paint them.
