First fruit!!

Floresville, TX(Zone 9a)

Here's a pic of my first fruit, on P. edulis, with pollen from P. perusii. It's the same plant from my bee photo thread http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/453736/, but only this flower made a fruit, despite the bees, so I'm guessing that it was indeed the perusii pollen and not it's own.

Anyone know how long this will take to mature??

No one knows how long these take to ripen? Come on here people:-)

Indigoez, I think P. edulis is self-pollinating, isn't it? I don't know. Anyway, I can't remember how long a fruit takes to ripen -- maybe a month. When it turns purple and wrinkled, it is ripe, or you can wait until it falls from the vine to harvest it.

I just read that many edulis varieties are self-sterile, requiring a different plant to pollinate them... more info anyone?

I really hope I end up with hybrid seed of some kind:-)
