I've seen some red (not pink, RED) hydrangea for sale online. Given that the company did not get good ratings in Garden Watchdog, I am leary. Is there such a thing? Soil pH is around 6.5. How much lime would I have to add to get it really red? What if I wanted to plant a white hydrangea next to it...would there be any effect on the color of the white one? I would then plant a blue hydrangea next to that one. Would the lime from the red hydrangea make the blue hydrangea more purple? I ask because I wanted to surprise my very patriotic neighbor (who is too ill to garden) with a red, white, and blue garden. She has terrible soil (but I am trying to amend it), and part shade. Any ideas would be welcome! Can't be too expensive, because she can't afford to buy plants; I am going to try to rely on plant trades, seed trades, and any other freebies or inexpensive things to make her a beautiful garden. TIA, Tamara
