These grow wll together. I think the colors play off eachother. The Clematis is Lady Bird Johnson, hybridized in England (I find that a bit ironic)
Clematis and Varigated Privet
very pretty! I also think they look great together.
Your Clematis looks lovely with your variegated Privet, however, it is not C. "Lady Bird Johnson". This particular Clematis has red flowers. http://davesgarden.com/pdb/finder/index.php?sname=Clematis&choice=L

I stand by saying this is Lady Bird Johnson.

.It is more red than the picture indicates...my camera doesn't seem to do very well with the color red, I have noticed that, with some other things.

Are any of the flowers outwards facing?

No, they all hang down like a bell.
I sent a picture of the Clematis to Chalk Hill where it was purchased...hopefully they can ID it for me...
I got a reply from Chalk Hill Clematis and they think it is Pagoda.

I am not sure because the flowers all seem to be shaped like a bell, and hang downward like a bell too.
Eventhough Chalk Hill's Clematis Nursery has a picture of Pagoda's blooms facing upward (which is very confusing) http://store.yahoo.com/chalkhillclematis/texensispagoda.html, I've also found the marjority of pictures on the Web to show that the flowers resemble a bell shape and hang downward. Here is an excerpt from "Clematis on the Web" regarding Pagoda. http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=529 I think you finally have a match.
A very beautiful combination!
Would you give me the botanical name of the
Privet, please? Thank you.
