I opened my composter this morning after being gone for the weekend and there are monstrous 6 inch tall mushrooms growing out of my compost!
What did we do wrong? Not enough air? It's a home-built wooden worm composter.
Any suggestions? And how do I make sure that if i get rid of these no more will grow?
Thanks!
What the.....?
Fron what I have been told, they are a natural happening in decomposition, and a good thing to have, unless you are doing "hot" composting.
I had a lot of mushrooms popping up in my garden, before we stated hitting the 100's.
No adverse effects I could see & I thought it was a good sign of soil activity?
I have my dirt really cookin' this year with Fish, Horse Manure & Bone Meal.
Too bad they're not Chantrelles =)
oh, good!
no, we just do food scraps, newspaper, and yard stuff. the worms are doing overtime and I've got a full pan of compost liquid every few days to sprinkle around!
Glad to see we're doing OK then. Thanks for the responses.
