Do pumpkin leaves normally wilt eventually?

Tygh Valley, OR(Zone 6a)

Howdy! =)

I have 2 pumpkin plants, when I came back from fishing last weekend, the leaves on one of the main vines were wilted. Now, the main leaves towards the end of the other vine are wilting in the heat of the day & coming back in the evening.
We don't have the usual vine borers etc. here in the NW AFAIK?
Is this normal behavior for pumpkin plants, after setting some nice fruit?
Each vine has 3 or 4 nice ones.

I buried the vines in a few spots to hopefully sprout some new root growth, I figured multiple root systems were a good idea either way.

Thanks a bunch!

I would not expect it in your part of the country, but here in the south it is quite normal. The huge leaves on pumpkin and other members of the squash group have such huge thin leaves that they pump out water faster than the roots can take it up.

OK, thanks Farmerdill.

I'm at 45N, but its always right around 100 here in the summer. I'm in the high desert.

I figured this was the case, or another big pumpkin was laying on & pinching off some vines? but thats not the cause, as far as I can tell?

Thanks again
