My bird's nest fern has a scale infestation. It's a lovely plant and I can't seem to get rid of these buggers. Anyone know if the scales will leave/die if I move the plant outside. Currently it is an indoor plant. My biggest concern is that the scales will start infesting other plants.

No the scale will not leave/die if the plant is brought outside.
I recommend that you post your question in the Garden Foes forum and also do a search for scale in that forum as there are several posts about those critters.
use cygon on them, it over kills and doesn't hurt the plant. I buy cygon in an earl may's store. Works wonderful. Great also for mealy bugs. Stinks terrible, but do it out doors. Works great on ferns and tender plants like impatients.
