Something was eating my maurandya and leaving these minute little black specks as well as a dark brown tar-like substance on stems and leaves. No ammount of searching disclosed a hint of bugs.At a 'stump the expert' booth sunday at our annual gardening-craft market-eat too much show he said it was probably from a nocturnal creepy crawly cutworm or something and to spread crushed oystershell around the base. (it's potted so that's easy) It has only been two nights since I did the shell bit,but so far there is no sign of new chewing.Pretty good organic solution, and for only about $4.00/ 10 lb. sack
night time pest
my guess would be slugs or a worm since it hasnt happened since the shells. it cuts their tender bellies and they wont crawl on it. actually anything like shells will do. i have also heard of plain old sand doing the same thing with the same results.
glad its working for you.
