Hello fellow veggie gardeners. I just received some lettuce seed in trade. One variety (Simpson Elite) is colored green. Another variety (Romaine) is colored pink! I have never seen this before. Does anyone know why these seeds would be dyed like this?
Thanks for any info, Sue
Why is my lettuce seed colored green and pink?
Sometimes they are dyed if they originally came in a "mixed" collection as a special offer from a company.........
Fungicide is colored also. If the seeds came from two different packages and mixed, it's possible that could be it too.
The first suggestion is a valid reason too.
Thank you faronell and Melody!
Poop, I wonder if I should plant seeds with fungicide on them now.
Shouldn't hurt a thing unless you are strict organic. I grow as organically as possible, but wouldn't have any feelings against using the seeds at this point.
I did some searching on google regarding fungicide on seeds. Seems to be a common practice on certain seeds, like corn. I can't find anything really negative. I don't know what the harm would be if we were strict organic, which we are not but I do try. Well, I've got a lot of them, so I'm using them! :)
