We bought some Heritage raspberry plants this year and they seem to be doing fine. However, I know nothing about fertilizer requirements. We planted them with Black Kow and some bone meal because our soil is very low in phosphates. Should they be fertilized some more during the growing season? Any other suggestions? We have had some problems with stem borers and looked it up. Apparently the guilty insects are only briefly on the plants and leave a dark ring around the stem. Everything above the ring dies. Is there an insecticide that is safe and stays on the shoot to discourage this stinker?

Yup, you should fertilize quite a bit, my schedule says 5 times with the weekly feed from the Mittleider method I use. www.growfood.com has more information. I don not know about the insect.
