Can't open Word

My daughter's puter refuses to open Word and puts up message "the system is dangerously low in resources"
It also says there is "not enough memory or disk space to run Winword"
However other programmes open OK and there is definitely a lot of spare space on her disk.
It also came up with an error message concerning kernel 32

Can anyone help please?

I wondered if there is a free download equivalent of Norton Systemworks - and might something like that cure this problem?
