I Fell Tonight...

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

I didn't hurt myself..not sure, really, how I avoided doing that. I landed on my cats scratcing pad, which was a carboard inclined thing that he loved. It is flattened now.
I have bruises on my toes and right hip, and my whole body is sore. And my knees! They both hurt, but especially the left one that was replaced almost two years ago. I was told by my Doc, that I couldn't really hurt the implant...but maybe I need to go, and have it checked? He is a specialist, and a visit to him usually is 100 plus dollars, something I really hate to spend. My insurance has a $5,000 deductible, so it is out-of-pocket, except if it is something major. That has not happened, yet, (knock on wood)
I need to lose a lot of weight, I know that is most of the problem...I know, but doing something about it, is another thing.

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

So sorry Melvatoo, I hope the bruises and sore body is all that happened. This is one of my nightmares...falling. I have gone way past the time I was advised to get both knees replaced and one hip replacement. I also fight the weight problem. I lost a lot (could stand to lose more) and everytime I put any back on I can feel every ounce of it in my legs. I think you should go with your gut feeling about the doctor visit. My method is unless there blood gushing I tend to wait a few days to see if it will go away (grin). Probably not the best plan, so please post what you decide and the outcome. I will keep a good thought for you.
Pati

PS: Thank goodness it was only the scratching pad and not the kittys!

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks Pati, I am okay, just sore. It could have been a lot worse...I had another sratching pad thing for the cat...good thing as he is a real brat, I would have had to go and get him another one...
No blood gushing, thank goodness. Thanks for the good thoughts. Falling used to be a scary thought, now that I have a few times, it is losing the fear factor...

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

I slipped the other day on a wet floor and came down on my left hip and it is still sore. Falling down is my biggest concern because I am a large man 6ft and weigh 312lbs and have many problems but the most annoying is Post Polio Syndrome a horrible illness that slowly drains the strength from my body especially my legs, so you can understand my fear of falling. I
know I should lose weight and have been trying to do so my entire adult life and being 66yrs old, am very tired of sacrificing and have come to accept "What will be will be."

Mount Hermon, LA(Zone 8b)

Melva, I hope everything is okay. Just the shock of falling is so upsetting.

Last time that happened to me, I had tripped over one of my pesky cats. I think my kitties must have taken a policy out on me or something, because they are always darting in front of my feet! LOL.

The soreness will probably last several days, but watch for anything more serious. Take care.

A repuable insurance broker, will not sell a policy to a cat...where do you think they found someone who would sell them a policy? Bad kitties! Horsie would never do that! (Yeah right!) He ran when I was on the floor last night, guess he thought he was in trouble, with all the cussing I was doing..
Thanks everyone, I am okay.

Melva, I am glad you feel you are ok. I know if I fell and bumped one of my knees that have been replaced it would really smart for several days but my surgeon has reassured me that my knees are stronger than what God gave me so I would probably wait and see rather than spend over $100 out of pocket. Of course I might be getting myself into trouble by waiting. lol Never an easy way to do things is there?

Anyway, I am glad you are doing ok. I bet the cardboard helped you land softer. Thank you to Horsie for that.

Verona, ON

Melva, how are you feeling tonight? Still stiff and sore? Aren't you glad Horsie had that cardboard toy?
The Orthopedic surgeon told me the same thing as Lani's told her - my new knee is much stronger than what I had to begin with. Hopefully you are just a little shaken up and well bruised. You are in my thoughts. You did what we all dread is going to happen - fall. That's some large deductible you have on your insurance, I'd think twice about being out of pocket the $100 - especially if I wasn't bleeding and other than sore my knee felt okay. Bet your pride was hurt more than your body - I know mine would be.
Watch your step and give Horsie a big hug for having such a well placed toy. D

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Tonight, I am still sore..more bruises have bloomed and I am sure they will continue. I am glad that Horsie's scratching pad was there...I am pretty sure if that had not been there to break my fall the outcome would be different. Right next to it , is a saddle on a metal stand...hitting that would not have been such an easy fall.
The deductabile is pretty high...and the out of pocket expense is a large consideration...and my surgeon told me, pretty much was yours did, Lani that I really could not do anything to hurt the implant. I didn't think I would be tI hesting the theory...and yes, it was a real blow, to my prideI have thanked Horsie, for the well placed toy.

if you guys want to try losing weight - i've got these 'power-pops' they're lollipops. you eat 3 per day; they've helped people lose incredible amounts of weight. they're 'natural' and don't contain ephrida. lemme know if you'd like a 10 day supply at my wholesale cost

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Tell me more about the 'power pops' I think I would like to try them. What do they taste like?
Melva

Coopersburg, PA(Zone 6b)

these are the flavors -MOCHA, CHERRY, GREEN APPLE, CINNAMON, MOUNTAIN BERRY, PINA COLADA, RASBERRY CHEESE CAKE, ROOT BEER FLOAT AND BUTTER PECAN. they taste like regular lollipops - but the ingredients are different:Guarana*: Combined with vitamins B6 and B12, helps to reduce fatigue and increase mental alertness; L-Tyrosine* (amino acid): Suppresses appetite, helps reduce body fat; Citrimax*: A natural ingredient in weight loss products for over 30 years which suppresses appetite and helps burn fat; Vitamin B6 [.2mg]: involved in more body functions than almost any other single nutrient, helps absorb fats, and reduces water retention; Vitamin B12 [.6mcg]: Helps with proper digestion, absorption of foods, and metabolism of carbohydrates and fats.

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds interesting..how much are they?

Coopersburg, PA(Zone 6b)

it's about $20 for 30

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks but that would be a lot per month. I can't afford it.

How are you feeling tonight, Melva? Howie and I battle weight, too, and we're back dieting again. One forum that's really helped us (especially Howie - I'm too busy here most of the time!) is http://3fatchicks.com

Howie has weight loss pages at his blog now, too: http://thehman.com/weight_loss.htm We're all in this together - we know how the weight just compounds our pain, and we want to feel better more than anything cosmetic.

i LOVE his site! and he wants to live in maine??? ME TOO - only i grew up there so i want to move BACK to maine!

as far as the expense of the lollipops.....no worse, perhaps even better, than specialty foods, diet/herbal pills. plus since it's MLM - getting a couple people involved besides yourself can pretty much give you free pops. the best thing about them is that they take care of sweet cravings

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Handhelpers, what is MLM? I'm interested. You have e-mail.

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Melva, are you ok now? I've been thinking about you since I read the first posting about your fall.

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks for thinking about me. I am okay..I have some bruises still and I guess I pulled a muscle in my back..but over all I am fine. I used to ride horses, years ago, and I still remember how to fall, when it is going to happen, you just let go...that way you don't hurt yourself more, trying not to fall. so when I started to fall, I just hoped for the best.

Coopersburg, PA(Zone 6b)

i'm thinking about you too - and hope you're all better soon!

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Have had you in my prayers. Sure am glad you weren't hurt worse and I know you are VERY glad too!!!!!

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks Everyone, it means a lot to me, I appreciate it a bunch...

Melva, it's good to meet a fellow former equestian. I use to ride too but never learned to fall well. I always got hurt because I tried to control the steed until the last possible moment at which time I had lost all balance and just went flying.

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

LL,
I fell a lot, and I never really hurt myself, other than bruises. I usually ended up, landing on my butt, which even as a child, was well padded. I don't recall anyone teaching me how to fall, I think I just learned it on my own, as a self preservation technique.
What kind of horses did you ride? Mine were always Quarter Horses, although I always wanted to ride a Arabian...

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

We had all the way from a Shetland pony we rescued to my last one which was a 16.2 hand Tennessee Walking Horse stallion. Caleb was about 9 when we got him and I had to have him castrated about a year later. He was so gentle but one of our mare had an estrus problem and it made him start to get untrustworth. He had an act he thought had to go thru each time I rode him. It often ended with me on the ground and him looking at me in amazement as tho he had no idea how I got there. He lived to be about 26 years old. One of my all time favorites tho was a Welsh/TWH cross mare named Belle. She stood about 13.3 and all the children and I rode her at one point or another.

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

I always wanted to have a horse that was trained to jump...I probably would have broken bones if I had ever done that. At the time Quarter Horses were not as tall. Most of ours were 15 hands and less. Now, they have been crossed with Thoroughbreds so much they are a taller horse, 17 hands is not unheard of...
My first horse, was a Welsh Pony and something...she was a real character, she would throw me, and look surprised to see me on the ground, rather like your horse. Her name was Dolly and she lived to be 33 years old. I don't remember how tall she was, probably less than 15 hands.

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

My first horse used to gallop to a ditch and jump it with me onboard. However sometimes she would stop abruptly before we got over the ditch. I would fly into it and she would stand there looking at me like she was saying "what are you doing down there?". I swear she knew what she was doing and had a sense of humor. She was hard as nails and could go all day working cattle or trail riding. Her breeding was half Arabian and half American mustang.

My present horse is an 18 year old bay Arabian mare. She is extremely well trained and I am going to sell her. I don't take the time to ride her and it is not the best place to have a horse you don't use even though she is the very best pet. WE have so many mosquitoes and black buffalo flies here that she is always covered with welts even though she gets sprayed on a regular basis. I feel so sorry for her sometimes. Someday when we have managed the money to build a suitable barn then I might get another horse.

Falling, I fall like a huge rock. Always land on my backside or front side or top side or bottom side. And ALWAYS land HARD. I got a saddle horn into the middle of my tummy once and I can still feel the pain from that one as I have scar tissue in there from a past surgery and the horn hit it dead center. OUCH. That time it was darned dogs that the neighbors let live loose. They were snapping at the horses heals and she wheeled around to attack them with her flying hooves and I fell off onto the pavement. Not my idea of a fun ride I can tell ya. lol
