I have a hanging basket of the old-fashioned vining-type petunia. This is the second year I've grown them. I try to remove the spent flowers ASAP and I was told to remove the seed pods to prolong blooming. Is this correct? Also, last yr. I remember them forming seeds MUCH later in the season- isn't this a bit too early? Can I save the green pods for the seeds now?
Every stem has one or more seed-pods instead of a bud that will be a bloom. What can I do to keep them blooming til frost like they did last year?? They are green and healthy-looking also.
BTW, I also have a barrel full of the old-timey 'balcony' petunia and they are in full bud and are just blooming with nary a seed-pod in sight- thank the LORD.
Any ideas??? A BIG thanks so much for the help in advance!!!!
Petunias Forming Seed-pods Too Early?!
I usually cut mine back around July to keep them blooming. Instead of just deadheading, you may want to snip or pinch of the flowers. If you cut them back midseason, they will get another flush of blooms.
