Great article, Darius. MaVie has turned everyone on in the brug forum with alfalfa pellets too. http://davesgarden.com/t/433894/ I bought a small bag of alfalfa bunny pellets to experiment with. I think I'll get a big bag when I get back to the feed store. I bet it would make a good fertilizer in the daylily beds too.

Sue,

Check the ingredients of those rabbit pellets and make sure they contain ONLY alfalfa. Rabbit pellets often include salt and other additives that may injure plants and soil. The alfalfa used in gardens is straight alfalfa meal or pellets manufactured as horse feed.

Sounds like a great thing to try. Mid June is just about here so will have to get out and get some alfalfa pellets.

I use alfalfa with good luck, I have hard clay soil & my arils love it

The main thing to worry about with alfalfa is that there is no corn in it. Look at the ingredients of the pellets carefully to make sure they contain only alfalfa. Sometimes I cant find corn-free pellets and then buy horse cubes.
inanda - depends on your bunny situation though.

I use the horse cubes. Soak them in a bucket of water first to break them up. Makes it easier to work them in.

I got a small package of Alfalfa from the petstore in the rabbit aisle. It looks like straw only green. Can I use this as a test package? I don't see that there is corn in it and package says 100% alfalfa in the ingredients.

PLMK, thanks
