Remembering the Fox Squirrels

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Wasnt so long ago- I could look out my window and watch several foxies running around and up and down our fence posts. Huge, beautiful and so sweet. We had one we called a cow marked, he was black and white- really really big.
This was about 10 years ago I guess-
Now looking out my window- I see no foxies, only the grays.
It saddens me. I watched their numbers dwindle over the years. Needless hunting by idiotic rednecks, feral mutts and cats- all played a role in killing off the local population.
I am not against hunting out of need- or even for a trophy, as long as you use every part of the animal you can. But- these people- they would/will go around the woods shooting anything they can. They have no clue, or do not care the impact it has on our local fauna. Why? Why kill off creatures our childrens children have a right to see? This is just a rant. :-(
I have found some foxy breeders- I might look into it eventually- Get a couple and keep them safe-blah blah. at least Fountain will have two Foxies left. :(
