Flea Repellent Plants?

Bradenton, FL(Zone 9b)

I'd like to use more natural remedies for repelling fleas from the pups. Problem is, most prefer cooler climates and die readily in zone 9b. I'm trying french lavender, which I've heard is effective (and planted it right near where the poochies like to nap outside). Any other suggestions?

Pennyroyal, for sure. Not sure about how it handles extreme heat though. We used to roll it up in a bandana and tie it around the dog's neck.

You might also give tansy a try...it's well-known for its insect repellent properties and should thrive in your area!

By the way nanette, I was born in Bradenton! Parents still live there! A hearty WELCOME TO DG to you also!

Cant do tansy, as the db said its poisonous and my dogs will definitely chew on everything!

I looked pennyroyal up...and apparently there is a florida pennyroyal, so i'll be on the lookout for that.

Thanks for the welcome!

Actually tansy is used in many cooking dishes but used sparingly cus of it's flavor. Only when people try to use it for medicinal reasons and use it in large quantities does it become dangerous.

The flavor is peppery and hot...hope your dogs don't like stuff of that flavor. It definitely is a great repellant though.

Some of the other mints are known to be repellant (other than pennyroyal)...I'll keep my eyes out for some more info and holler back.
