Aged horse manure

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I just found a wonderful stable/riding school near my home that gives away any and all the aged manure I could ever want (need).
My question is, can I plant directly in this wonderful crumbly dirt looking compost or does it HAVE to be mixed with other things (soil)? Smells like dirt, looks like dirt, feels like dirt....so is it now dirt? LOL
I was told it is well over a year old.

Hi Marc !!! . . . . I have some aged horses too ...........LOL

..............If it smells and looks like dirt it is prolly more than a year old which is good. Aging outdoors accomplishes the task of leaching some of the N out. I still would not plant directly in it.

That's why we spread fresh manure in the fall and till it in next spring.

*rambling on*..................I started a whole veggie garden on one of my unused manure piles . Guess it was 7 or 8 years old. It's like walking on a big sponge out there. The only prob I had was from lack of Ca, once i figured that out everything is super =)................

So watch the N .

While I got you here LOOKY !!!
