An idea for cheap propagation...

Anyone who wants to germinate exotics, like palms or other plants that tend to need high temperatures to germinate can save the expense of heating mats or propagators by using one (or both) of the following...
a) bottle-warmers. These usually have a thermostat that can be altered to the desired temperature and easily accommodate a small (3") round pot. Fill them with water to just above the bottom of the pot and keep topping the water level up as it evaporates.

b) youhurt makers. I have one of these that has six compartments which keep the yoghurt at roughly blood temperature. Replacing the yoghurt pots with flower pots provides an ideal environment for high-temperature germinators (pelargoniums are a good example).

These items often turn up in junk shops at next to nothing..
