I have Sword ferns in my shady areas and they are starting to get quite large. I read that I should cut them back every year but so far have just cut off the dead fronds each spring and left the rest alone. Would they do better if I cut them all the way back annually?
Ferns
In my experience with Sword Ferns, they do well no matter what you do... the more water they happier. I personally wish they wouldn't do so well. They eventually spread everywhere.
Mine have been in place for 3 years and are getting bigger but have not spread at all! Maybe I need to put in some Hosta for them to crowd!
If anyone wants to thin theirs out and part with them, email me and we trade or do a postage thing
